El Salí

Did you know that salt was produced in Cambrils?

The water sources in this area have 5 times higher density of salt than in the Mediterranean Sea. These salty wells gave name to Ribera Salada (salty river).

The "white gold" (salt) has been appreciated since immemorial times but we have only data recorded from 1780. It was in the endings of the 19th century when the operating saline was at full capacity to produce up to 165 tons of salt annually. The salt production stopped working in 1963.

Within the installation there are five hydraulic mills.
